 Dr. Bashir received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from Mu’tah University in 1989 and his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Jordan in 2002 for his research in speech recognition focused on building a large vocabulary speech recognition model for Arabic language. He awarded his Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of Lincoln, for his research in Retinal image analysis. He joined the Lincoln School of Computer Science at the University of Lincoln in 2009. His research includes computer vision, medical image analysis, automated surveillance, artificial intelligence, speech recognition, and applications of active contour models.

 Professor Andrew Hunter received his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computing in 1985, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1989, both from the University of Bath. He joined the University of Lincoln in 2004, founding the Centre for Vision and Robotics Research, and is currently the Dean of Research. His major research interests are in retinal imaging, including the segmentation of retinal vessels and lesions, in human behavioural analysis (including assistive care and surveillance), and in specialized hardware for vision and other sensor analysis, including FPGA-based neural architectures for segmentation, tracking and scene analysis.

 David Steel is a consultant ophthalmologist at Sunderland Eye Infirmary in the North East of England. He is a vitreoretinal surgeon with clinical interests in all aspects of retinal disease and complex cataract surgery. He holds an honorary lectureship at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and is Speciality Group Lead for the Northumbria and Tyne and Wear Comprehensive Local Research Network (CLRN). David is an exit examiner for Royal College of Ophthalmologists UK (RCO) and a member of the RCO Surgical Skills Faculty involved with courses on phacoemulsification and retinal surgery. In addition to these duties, David leads the South of Tyne Diabetic Retinopathy Eye-screening Programme and is a member of the National External Quality Assessment (EQA) Team and Grading Group for diabetic retinopathy. His research interests include fundal image analysis in disease states, retinal repair and regeneration with cellular therapies and clinical vitreoretinal research.

 Maged Habib graduated from Ain-Shams University, Egypt in 1991. He then obtained his Masters Degree in Ophthalmology in 1994, and became a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, and a Member of the Royal college of Ophthalmologists in London. He works now as a Vitreo-retinal Fellow in Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, UK. His main research projects investigate retinal vascular analysis and the role of retinal vascular geometry in diagnosis and prediction of systemic vascular diseases. He has special clinical and research interest in the prediction, diagnosis and early management of diabetic eye disease.
