Welcome to the WWW pages of the retinal image computing & understanding research group. The group concentrates on the development of computerized systems for the analysis of retinal images, including theoretical studies of the retinal structure, segmentation of retinal features including the vasculature and lesions, and analysis of diseases of the retina. The segmentation and measurement of retinal vascular structures plays an important role in diagnosis, surgery and research, in many important systemic disorders such as diabetes and hypertension. Furthermore, the vascular tree is the most appropriate representation for image registration applications.
Retinal lesions are indicative of a number of major diseases, including in particular diabetic retinopathy.
The optic nerve head is a key landmark in retinal images, and shows changes related to diseases including glaucoma and proliferative retinopathies.
